Coorparoo State School Swim Club, Coorparoo

Our Club promotes participation, improvement and having fun! We welcome young swimmers of all ages & abilities from Coorparoo SS and the wider community.

The Coorparoo State School Swim Club welcomes young swimmers from both Coorparoo State School and the wider community. The Club caters for swimmers of all ages and abilities; children do not have to be good swimmers to enjoy the benefits of our Swim Club. We promote participation, improvement and having fun. Members of other clubs are also welcome.

Coorparoo State School Swim Club members enjoy the benefits of:
- 25 metre, 8 lane pool (entrance via Halstead St, Coorparoo)
- Electronic timing system
- Enthusiastic team of volunteers and supporters
- Canteen and bar

The management of the Swim Club is vested in the Coorparoo State School Swim Club Committee; a sub-committee of the Coorparoo State School P&C Association. The Swim Club is affiliated with Swimming Queensland.

Upon joining the Club, all members are registered with Swimming Qld (SQ) and Brisbane Swimming (BSA). Parents, guardians and carers are entitled to free membership of SQ but are requested to complete a membership form for insurance purposes.

Everything you need to know about the Swim Club including rules and regulations is detailed in the CSSSC Handbook. Please read and refer to the handbook for more detailed information about how the Swim Club operates.

HOW TO JOIN?

The Swim Club is a great way for the kids to race and have fun while parents catch up. Prospective members are welcome to come along for up to two Club Nights before committing to membership for the remainder of the season. At this time full membership fees are due.

Each prospective swimmer must complete the Membership Form in full.

Click here to download the Membership Form. Completed forms can be emailed to the Registrar at coorparooswimclub@gmail.com or returned to the School Office. Any new member enquiries should be directed to the Registrar (contact details listed below).

HOW TO GET INVOLVED?

Club Nights offer an opportunity for members to be involved either as swimmers, volunteers or supporters.

There are many roles to fill each night including:

- Announcer
- Race starter
- Bar & canteen attendants
- Results recorders
- Cooks at the BBQ
- Time-keepers
- First-aid officers
- Marshalls

Swim Club is a great way to meet other members of the school and wider community.

Swim Club is operated by volunteers and it is expected that, whenever possible, member families will make themselves available to assist with the Club’s operations.

CLUB NIGHTS

Friday nights are Club Nights where swimmers take part in time trials over 25m, 50m or longer in all strokes, with the aim of improving their own times. Once swimmers have achieved a qualification time over 25m they are eligible to swim in the 50m events.

Members swim according to their PB (personal best time) rather than age, ensuring that swimmers race against others of similar standard.

Times are recorded and improvement points are tallied at the end of each season, with trophies for each stroke awarded to the swimmers attaining the most points. The focus is on personal achievement and improvement and not whether individuals are the best swimmer in any given stroke or age group.

A 25 metre assisted event is offered for beginner swimmers ("Little-Uns"). Older children are encouraged to participate by assisting the younger swimmers in this event. This is an untimed event and improvement points are not awarded.

Club policy is that we swim "rain or shine". The only time an exception is made to this policy is when severely inclement weather (electrical storm) is imminent and the safety of members may be affected. In this instance the Committee will make a decision to cancel Club Night no earlier than 6pm.

CLUB CALENDAR

The Swim Club season is from October to March (coinciding with Term 4 and Term 1 for Queensland State Primary Schools). Club Nights are not held during school holidays. In any season there are typically 14-16 Club Nights.
